The Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2006 is a full-flavored medium bodied wine with vibrant currant-leaf and gooseberry aromas, some herbaceous nuances, and a hint of ripe citrus. A pale straw-colored wine with lemon-lime tones, this wine refreshes the palate with a crisp, clean, lingering finish. We recommend drinking our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc while it is young and fresh, but the wine is capable of developing nicely over the next three years if carefully cellared.
Review
"Big Yellow grapefruit, little flint, on the palate more pink grapefruit, lemon and lime. Nice classic New Zeland Sauvignon blanc." Zach Padilla (TLS Product Specialist)

Technical notes
The fruit was machine harvested on flavor criteria in cool evening conditions, destemmed and lightly pressed with no skin contact. The free run juice was cold settled to achieve a high degree of clarity. The clear juice was fermented for 21 days at very low temperatures with selected yeast strains such as Vin7, QA23 and VL3, to preserve the inherent fruit flavors. The juice was aged on light yeast lees post fermentation for three months to give the wine a slightly rounder mouthfeel. A very small amount of residual sugar was retained to balance the crisp natural acidity inherent in the region’s Sauvignon Blanc.

Food pairing
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with summer salads, poultry and shellfish, particularly suited to oysters or green shell mussels, as well as lobster and white fish.

Producer
Every bottle of WHITEHAVEN wine proudly carries the anchor insignia, the distinctive quality marque of one of New Zealand’s most respected family wine companies. Established in 1994 in the heart of the internationally renowned Marlborough region, WHITEHAVEN is the realisation of the White family’s vision to create a respected and critically acclaimed winery. Sailing the Pacific, they set a new course for the Marlborough Sounds, dropped anchor and launched a wine label - WHITEHAVEN. Today the company is headed by Sue White, an enthusiastic advocate of the region, who continues to make the dreams she shared with her late husband Greg a reality. Sue leads a small, talented, committed team who together are carving global recognition for the WHITEHAVEN label, showcasing elegant, single varietal Marlborough wines to over a dozen countries. The WHITEHAVEN philosophy centres on the pursuit of ’quality without compromise’ a principle underpinning the entire winemaking cycle – from vineyard management to every bottle of pure Marlborough wine bearing the WHITEHAVEN label. In a relatively short history WHITEHAVEN has evolved to become one of Marlborough’s leading ambassadors, our award-winning wines bearing the distinctive anchor insignia are enjoyed around the world. It’s a marque of quality, consistency and integrity.
